Tone It Up Bikini Series Challenge: Week 1 Recap

If you follow me on IG, then you know I’ve recently dedicated eight weeks of my life to the 2018 Tone It Up Bikini Series Challenge. I could not be more excited or determined to complete every single day to the best of my ability! That’s because I’m like any average Joe fighting the good fight of commitment to a workout program/challenge. Yes, I’m super motivated to workout consistently, but I am one to fall off nutrition “plans” or “programs” if I don’t complete it just right. (Perfectionist, much? Yup!)

But not this time because I’ve come to realize REAL QUICK, this is not a workout program or fad diet. It’s a lifestyle!

So what is this magical “Tone It Up” I speak of? Well, let me tell you… it’s near perfection! Efficient muscle-toning workouts with the BEST nutrition plan I’ve followed to-date!

The creators of Tone It Up are two SoCal girls, Katrina and Karena, who are on a genuine mission to help girls globally live a healthy life from the inside-out! Their energy for their mission is contagious, which is shown by their million+ followers. Whether you’re a college gal, a stay-at-home mom, a professional, or even a retired grandma, this plan works for everyone!

Now let me just add here, this is no “coaching scheme” or even paid promotion. I’m sharing this info simply because…

  1.  I LOVE it too much not to share
  2. My body (aka digestion) has never been happier (which is HUGE for me as I’ve struggled all my life!)
  3. Quite a few people have been asking me what the heck it is that I’m doing
  4. I want to hold myself even more accountable by documenting each week not only visually (IG) but emotionally (right here on the site).

To paint a better picture of the “plan,” essentially you purchase your LIFETIME Nutrition Plan through the lovely gals, and you are sent a Lifestyle Kit. The Kit includes all sorts of goodies, such as a water bottle, food prep containers, booty band, and of course, THE BOOK. This book walks you through how to best eat “Lean, Clean ‘N Green,” which is pretty much their motto when it comes to eating all the foods.

Once you’ve purchased the Nutrition Plan, you are a member FOR LIFE! That means you get all the deets on how to eat, when to eat, what to eat, etc. plus a TON of recipes in the book. THEN you get all the meal plans for future challenges sent straight to your inbox from that point forward- for FREE! Easy, peasy, right? Good deal, right?? I think so!

Prior to this program I was semi-following the “If It Fits Your Macros” train. As awesome as it was to eat a lot more foods that are more tempting to eat (i.e. pizza, cheeseburgers, etc.) I always felt bloated and heavy. The TIU Nutrition Plan, which consists of FIVE meals per day, leaves me feeling satisfied and light! The recipes guide you to create those tempting foods (i.e. donuts, burgers, etc.) but through the use of vegetables, fruits, and other raw, clean food. If you feel hungry, the gals encourage you to eat a little more because they encourage tailoring it all to your life! Your body. Your goals.

Now for the workouts, FREE daily moves and complimentary videos can be found directly on their website. However, if you really want to TONE IT UP (hehe) you can subscribe to their phone app- Studio Tone It Up. They have a plethora of options to choose from, such as yoga, barre, HIIT, fine toning, total body, and stretching. They predominately follow a “light weight, heavy reps” model, which was quite a change for me because I was definitely lifting heavy beforehand.

Soooo with that quick overview, what I’m currently committed to is their most popular challenge of the year- the Bikini Series. It’s eight weeks of fresh workouts, meal plans, meditations, virtual coffee chats, and a TON of support within the TIU community (best found on IG or the TIU Facebook page). And so far, it’s proven to be a lot of fun with some feel-good results!

Again, I’m sharing this to hold myself accountability, to be 100% real with you, and to possibly inspire another. Living a fit life is a game-changer in so many departments (i.e. sobriety, motherhood, marriage), so even if Tone It Up has zero appeal to you, I encourage you to find something that makes YOU EXCITED to live a healthier lifestyle!

Here are my starting stats:

Weight: 138 lbs

Arms: 11.75 in (L) + 11.5 in (R)

Waist: 35 in

Hips: 37 in

Thighs: 21 in (L) + 22 in (R)

Calf: 13.5 in (L) + 13 in (R)

Running pace (1 mile): ~8:45 min

Push-ups (1 min): 20 regular + 12 on my knees


  • Complete the challenge- the whole eight weeks- to the best of my ability
  • Connect deeper with the TIU community (i.e. meet-ups)
  • Lose a few lbs (~5-8 lbs)
  • Run more often (3-4x per week)
  • Yoga 2x per week
  • Drink 96oz of water DAILY
  • Journal DAILY
  • Cut down on my (almost) nightly ice cream habit (2x per week- MAX!)

End of Week 1 Check-in:

Workouts= 7/7

Meal Plan= followed it about 90% of the week. By Thursday, my ice cream craving took hold and kept going… definitely need to work on that sweet tooth at night.

Water= 48 oz was my average. Definitely need to work on this!

Running= 1x but did two 5Ks on the elliptical

Yoga= 1x

Journal= 6/7 days

TIU checkin= checked in with my sweet accountability partner on IG almost every day!

Weight= 135lbs

Overall, I am pretty happy with Week 1. My mind feels good, I feel lighter, and I was able to identify craving triggers (i.e. boredom, stress, anxious). The recipes were delish, and my body is definitely smiling on the inside from all the clean eats!

Now off to continue crushing Week 2!! 🙂
